Test tubes

I collected the components of my cut-out flies to make specimen tubes to simulate a scientific way of documenting and display.

Hand made Drawers

With help I decided to make drawers to collect stuff in as I was finding it hard to source ready made professional ones :P

Museum style..

Got a quick chance to pop the insects in an old display cabinete!!

Bell jar simulation :)

Recreated a bell jar just to see what the effect would be like as I'm looking into them for 4th year.
Little gold alligators in a case

Glass House

Again looking at display methods.. using my dads old collected figurines in a glass box i was given as a child.. I painted them gold to try add a sense of value to them to represent the sentimental worth..

Shadow play :)

Frames

Laminated butterflies in frames..

These beatles are a fragmentation of pattern, I thought it was an interesting way of breaking up the thing we use to decorate so much of our lives.
I collected the negative cut-out space of the Beatles and displayed them in jars.

Jars

I used jars as a means of display for the cutout butterflies, keeping them suspended inside like our memories in time. I titled them "Literas" or collectively "Volans Literas" which is latin for "Letters" or "Flying Letters" as these butterflies are cut from old letters.

The Gathering project

My piece for the gathering was simple, spelling out a homely message with household objects to evoke a sense of comfort and nostalgia..

Flutterbies

I also cut out more butterflies out of my first baby book that my mom collected bits and bobs about me in..
Attempting to create more detail on these ones..

Also keeping the use of catching shadows in these..

I edited some for different effect

Box Frame

First attempt at display using a box frame.. Plan to make these better for next year..

Third year semester two

This semester I decided to focus more on the insects I started doing at the end of semester one as I found these challenging and saw that I really engaged with them. They are all drawn and cut from the print of old travel tickets I have collected throughout the years keeping with my theme of collecting and nostalgia and connecting the two together further.

I focused on creating a mass (swarm) and really pushed the idea of installation  trying many hanging techniques for different effect.

Here I installed them with with pins to cast shadows and to give the effect of a swarm..

Her they are hung with the intention of both sides being revealed, gold was added to the backs and a white transparent veil was added to the fronts of some for different effect.
